We are less than five weeks from the #1 sporting event in the State of CT – The Travelers Championship. This event is huge, both in terms of time and money. The millions invested by Travelers Insurance as the lead sponsor. The Hundreds-of-Thousands invested by all of the other sponsors. The time freely given by the thousands of volunteers.
All to make money? Absolutely. This time though the beneficiaries are charities throughout CT. The Travelers Championship donates 100% of the tournament proceeds to charity. The charity beneficiaries are widespread and include the Jaycees, The Hole in the Wall Gang, and a multitude of other recipients.
Besides charity the CT economy benefits from $28M plus in ancillary revenues the tournament spins off to local businesses. So yes, sports marketing does work.
Joining Tom and Ken in this edition of Open for Business is Jason Soucy, The Director of Sales for the championship. Jason shares why this event is so critical for not only the charities and direct beneficiaries, but for the CT economy as a whole.
